Since the Great Prohormone Ban of 2014, ostarine is one of the few highly effective muscle building supplements left on the market.
While we’ve mostly been left with a sea of ineffective and lackluster products, ostarine has remained a true standout amongst its peers.
After recently finishing an 8-week cycle of Osta-Red (ostarine), I’m ready to share my experience, results, and a bevy of ostarine-based knowledge with you.
So to start…
What is Ostarine?
Ostarine is a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (SARM) that was developed by the pharmaceutical company GTx to fight muscle wasting conditions.
It does this by binding to androgen receptors in much the same way as anabolic steroids or prohormones.
But unlike steroids, ostarine only affects certain tissues.
Specifically, ostarine targets the androgen receptors found in muscle and bone while not acting on other organs or converting to unwanted hormones.
In plain English, that means that you get the benefits of anabolic steroids/prohormones without the unwanted side effects.
So how does ostarine work as a bodybuilding supplement?
Here’s a full account of my recent experience with Osta-Red.
My Osta-Red cycle goals
I approached my Osta-Red cycle with just a few simple wants:
- Lose 1 lb per week
- Preserve muscle mass
- Avoid side effects
That’s it – nice and easy.
My 8 week experience with Osta-Red
Over the winter, I’d cleanly bulked up to about 191 lbs.
And while I wasn’t anywhere near fat, I wasn’t nearly as lean as I wanted to be for summer.
I can’t say I was bothered by the fact that I was able to maintain that weight with relatively low body fat levels on 3,600 calories per day, but I definitely wanted to lean out some.
With my maintenance calories being so high, I expected my weight to take a fairly dramatic cliff dive as soon as I made a cut.
So when I started Osta-Red, I decreased my intake to 3,300 – just a 300 calorie deficit to get rolling on a slow and sensible fat loss cycle.
But the scale didn’t budge!
In fact, it jumped up a few pounds in the first two weeks.
At that point, I was a little frustrated so I cut back to 3,000 calories for a week. And still, nothing.
I was eating at a 600-calorie deficit with extra cardio programmed in and I was gaining weight.
What the FUCK?!?
This was a kick in the pants because I was planning an “8-week transformation” but I was nearly halfway through and seemed to be going backwards.
About 4 weeks, in I decided to look at my Before photos and noticed that even though my weight was the same as when I started, I was actually leaning out.
I was gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time!
It didn’t take long to go from pissed off to just plain excited!
And wanting to make the most of this cycle of ostarine, I continued cutting calories for a couple more weeks, getting down to a consistent 2,300 calories per day during the final week to get me to my After weight.
Tight and motivated
I’ve been through the bulking and cutting routine more times than I care to count. Mentally and energy-wise, this time felt like a lot like the others.
I’m naturally a big eater so cutting my calories left me feeling a little tired, kind of grumpy, and increasingly preoccupied with food.
And normally, when I lose a few pounds, my clothes start to fit looser in all the wrong places – which kills my motivation!
But what was different about using Osta-Red is that I didn’t feel my muscles wasting away –
which caused an ever-present sense of optimism!
After this cutting cycle, my shirts are still stretching across my chest, my sleeves have yet to release their hold on my biceps, and my jeans are still snug around the thighs.
It’s only my waist band that’s fitting a little too large.
And even though my energy levels were quite low from eating at a deficit, I didn’t feel emaciated like I always do on a cut.
I literally felt like my skin was shrink-wrapped around my muscles!
Osta-Red kept my muscles feeling full despite slashing carbs
I didn’t have a ton of fat to lose in the first place, but little areas like those around my lower back and the point where my biceps and delts meet started to get carved out.
My muscles also felt constantly full and strong (even on or after low carb days) versus the “deflated” sensation that usually comes with strict dieting.
I’m even seeing details in my obliques and serratus that I’ve never seen before.
My obliques actually feel like a grainy piece of flank steak!
I know that sounds like a strange source of pride, but as a former skinny/fat kid, I can tell you that it’s incredibly satisfying to be able to feel this level of leanness!
My strength stayed with me
As I said, eating pretty far below maintenance meant my energy levels were chronically low, but when I went to the gym the strength was still there.
I could still do as many pull-ups as during my days of eating a bountiful 3,600 calories, even though my mind said it shouldn’t be possible.
Even when doing pull ups as my last exercise on high volume back and shoulder days, I could still pump out set after set with better form than before my cycle.
I had the strength and determination to fully hang and stretch for a couple seconds at the bottom, then retract and depress my scapulae, pull my chest up to the bar and squeeze like hell.
It was a very foreign feeling since pull-ups typically kick my ass even when I’m fully fed.
Bodyweight and arm size
You’ve probably heard the old school bodybuilding wisdom that if you want to add an inch to your arms you need to gain 15 lbs of bodyweight overall.
For me, it’s been absolutely true.
Every time I’ve gained 15 lbs, overall my arms have increased almost exactly an inch in diameter – which is awesome!
But every time I’ve cut 15 lbs, they’ve shrank by just about the same amount – not so great.
Over the years, and especially since starting TRT, I’ve been able to spare an eighth of an inch here and gain a quarter there to finally have better proportions.
But for the most part, this has been a consistent rule for me….until now.
I’m down 8 lbs and my arms are exactly the same size as when I started!

Finally! I’ve defied this “law” of bodybuilding with Osta-Red.
So what does that tell me?
Well, I’ve definitely lost some fat on my arms and my glycogen levels are depleted from cutting carbs, so my guns should be much smaller.
But I’ve actually retained all of my muscle mass and most likely gained a little!
With everything said and done, at the end of 8 weeks I landed at a much leaner and harder 183 pounds.
This is the leanest I’ve ever been in my life!
Is Ostarine right for you?
In pursuit of the ideal male physique, many guys wanting maximum results (understandably) turn to illegal steroids or harsh (and also illegal after 2014) prohormones.
And while these compounds work superbly for their intended purposes – they do so at a price.
Most old school prohormones and high-dosed steroids cause a host of unwanted side effects including:
- hair loss,
- gynocomastia (bitch tits),
- enlarged prostate,
- suppressed natural testosterone,
- water retention,
- high blood pressure,
- and loss of gains immediately after cycle
But not with Ostarine!
Many of these side effects are the result of the supplemented hormones being converted into other compounds within the body such as DHT or estrogen.
But SARMs, in this case ostarine, aren’t actually hormones and thus don’t convert to unwanted hormones.
So you get the isolated benefits on the desired tissue, namely muscle and bone, without the negative side effects associated with harsher products.
And it’s extremely effective!
Is Ostarine side effect free?
I would love to be able to say “yes” with 100% certainty.
But you have to accept that there’s a chance for side effects, even with vitamin and mineral supplements.
Just know that I didn’t experience any during or after my cycle.
And also keep in mind that the VAST MAJORITY of ostarine users report ZERO SIDE EFFECTS.
For most guys, as long as you stick to the recommended dose and follow-up with a mild Post Cycle Therapy (PCT), the chances of side effects are much lower than any other type of performance enhancing supplement.
But it’s my personal opinion that you should always approach these things with caution.
So while an aggressive PCT isn’t required, I’d recommend one just to be on the safe side (I’ll share what to use below).
Maximize your ROI
Simply put, ostarine is going to make all of your lifting goals more effective.
We all know that you can’t change your physique without proper training and diet – great supplements or not.
But I also know first hand from having low T that training hard and eating right aren’t always enough.
Perhaps you’ve (a) just been dealt a shitty hand, and/or (b) got everything else is in line but you’re struggling to take it the next level.
It’s frustrating as hell, even INFURIATING, to dedicate 100% of your effort toward a goal, only to get imperceptible results.
This is where supplements like Ostarine come into play.
I’m doing all the hard work so I want to make sure that I’m capitalizing on every possible ounce of muscle gain.
When I’m hitting the weights with everything I’ve got and chewing my way through dry microwaved chicken and plain canned tuna, I want my body to at least meet me half way.
This is especially relevant for guys like myself with the skinny/fat body type.
We tend to lose muscle more easily than we lose fat and gain fat far more easily than we gain muscle.
But I’m prepared to do whatever I can to make sure I don’t use genetics as an excuse.
And if that means all I have to do is take Osta-Red to get the results I’m working for, then that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
What can you expect from Ostarine?
Osta-Red is as versatile as it is effective. Use it for:
- Fat loss
You’re going to amplify your results regardless of goal!
If you train hard and eat excess calories, you’re going to pack on several more pounds of muscle and less fat than if you went about it with just food and lifting alone.
If you’re aiming for the elusive body recomposition where you lose body fat and gain muscle at the same time (many say this is impossible, but I seem to have done it), you’re going to have the most dramatic results if you’re running ostarine.
And there’s nothing better available (legally at least) that will help you hold onto your hard-earned muscle mass while on an aggressive fat loss program.
I’ll likely never attempt an ambitious cutting cycle again without Osta-Red!
Too much work goes into acquiring muscle and I’m simply not willing to sacrifice it just to drop a few percent body fat.
But with Osta-Red, I was able to drop calories as low as I wanted and maintained all of my strength and mass, and quite possibly gained a little.
Who should consider Osta-Red?
As always, don’t expect a supplement, even one as powerful as Osta-Red, to do the work for you.
I wish I could tell you that I just popped 3 pills per day and ate a normal diet and “exercised.”
But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
I really put the pedal to the floor over the past 8 weeks, and I was already working hard.
If you’re brand new to the gym, you have plenty of growth potential without supplements.
If you have 100 lbs to lose, the effects of Osta-Red aren’t going to replace what the right diet and workout routine will do for you.
But for the guys who are grinding away in the gym week after week, month after month, and year after year, this is the best way I’ve found to legally accelerate your progress.
You do the work, Osta-Red makes sure you see the best results. It’s that simple.
My Osta-Red dosing protocol
From the beginning, I intended to run Osta-Red at 37.5mg (3 caps) per day, but I started with one cap to test the waters.
If I was going to have any immediate reactions, I’d rather it be to one versus three caps.
With no adverse reactions, I took two the second day. Still no issues.
So I went to the full 3 caps on day 3 (all in one dose first thing in the morning) and continued that protocol until I was finished with 2 bottles, which came to a perfect 8-week cycle.
I kept an eye out for any strange side effects and had my Red-PCT on hand just in case, but didn’t need to use it.
Since I’m on TRT and don’t have issues with estrogen levels (my doctor actually cut out my aromatase inhibitor), I wasn’t in need of PCT.
But if I had needed it, I would’ve taken Red-PCT at the recommended dose of one cap in the morning, one around noon, and one before bed.
What to buy
If you’re giving your diet and training 100% and are ready to push yourself to the next level, here’s what I would recommend to recreate my cycle:
- 2 bottles of Osta-Red for a full 8-week cycle
- 2 bottles of Red-PCT
After your supplements arrive, just run the Osta-Red and Red-PCT at the recommended dose and you’ll be good to go.
Note: You could opt to buy one bottle of Red-PCT and two bottles of Osta-Red or you can buy them both in a “bundle” for a discount. If you buy everything together in a bundle the total discount of $40 works out so that you’re just shy of getting a bottle of Red-PCT for free.
And with two bottles of Red-PCT, you can run the Red-PCT during your Osta-Red cycle at 1-2 caps per day to keep estrogen down and add a little peace of mind.
