3 Delicious and Easy Chocolate Mass Gainer Shakes

3 Mass Gainer Shake Recipes

After a lengthy bulk phase, mass gainer shakes in the home stretch have helped push my weight up to 210 pounds – the heaviest I've ever been.

To get to that weight, I've had to eat, eat, and eat some more.

But when I'm constantly overeating, my usually ravenous hunger is nonexistent, which makes the thought of mountains of baked chicken and vegetables sound pretty gross.

Although I eat several healthy meals every day, I've had to turn to some better tasting junk foods to make up the remainder of my calories.

The following three mass gainer shakes are so delicious and simple that you won't be able to wait to pound back the calories .

Before I share my favorite chocolate mass gainer shake recipes, I need to explain why mass gainer shakes almost never work for most guys.

Don't Make This Mass Gainer Mistake!

As I explained in my guide to gaining weight, skinny guys are skinny because they don't have a big appetite.

But to gain muscular bodyweight, the calories you consume must exceed the calories you burn. There's no way around it.

With this knowledge, one of the first things underweight guys do to bulk up is run out and buy a weight gain powder…so far so good.

But very rarely do these shakes translate into increased bodyweight. Why?

The shakes don't work because they're very filling and just end up taking place of a meal. And skipping a 700-calorie meal because you drank a 700-calorie shake is completely useless for getting big.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that weight gainer shakes only work if they're in addition to your normal diet.

So my Number One tip for incorporating weight gainer shakes into your routine is to have them at night after you've eaten all of your normal meals.

That way, the 1,000-calorie shake will be more than enough to put you into weight gain territory.

Chocolate Mass Gainer Recipes

After slogging through 10 lbs. of Extreme Milk Chocolate whey from Optimum Nutrition, I restocked my favorite Red Supplements Whey in Chocolate Ice Cream.

The difference in flavor is night and day!

When I'm bulking, I have to have a rotation of foods and shakes that taste really great to tempt me when my appetite is not all there.

This is a big part of why I love the Red Supplements Elite Whey Proteins. The natural, high quality ingredients in this protein elevate my mass gainer shakes to dessert status.

Mocha Blast Mass Gainer

This shake offers a flavor very similar to a Cappuccino Blast from Dunkin' Donuts, except it has a ton of protein to help you build muscle instead of just gaining fat.

Given the hefty coffee content with this one, USE DECAF if you plan on drinking this at night.

Feel free to use the caffeinated variety if you're enjoying it during the daytime. This is an excellent breakfast or mid-day energizer shake.

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until thoroughly mixed.

Chocolate Covered Banana Mass Gainer

There's always money in the banana stand.

With that Arrested Development reference out of the way, here's my mass gainer shake recipe that closely mimics a chocolate covered frozen banana.

(TIP – peel over-ripe bananas and place in a freezer bag before freezing so you don't have to fight with peeling them later.)

  • 2 scoops chocolate whey protein (I use this one)
  • 3 frozen, ripe bananas
  • 3 Tbsp chocolate syrup

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until thoroughly mixed.

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter cup ice cream

Thanks, Michael! I haven’t decided yet but I haven’t taken anything since I reviewed the Ostarine so I’m getting the itch.

As an endomorph, would this type of bulking be disastrous in terms of trying to keep the waist increase in check ?

If you use these recipes as more of a meal replacement you’ll be okay. If you add a 1,000 calories onto your normal diet everyday you’ll gain fat too quickly.

I have come to like the taste of BSN Syntha-6 products (I have had the Strawberry and Chocolate flavors before and enjoyed both) for protein powder and recently got a 1lb can of Optimum Nutrition because it came in a smaller size (long story that I won’t go into).

    It’s a LOT worse tasting…

I haven’t had Syntha-6 for a few years but I do remember them being quite good. Do you agree the Optimum is just Bland?
